I never met him but loved his posts on Twitter and then Bluesky. You have described his impact beautifully. Thank you. πŸ™

Thank you so much for writing this. It's hard to take in. He was a streak of light on my twitter --a man unafraid of bad news with no loss of integrity, a compassionate man who loved to share and knew the way to joy. I live in Calgary and would have loved to attend one of his early morning coffees --that alone speaks volumes, story upon story, of what it means to share in community. Thank you also for the photo you shared, the caring man we felt even if we didn't meet him in person. I can't imagine the pain in his family, and the loss for his unit. My heart feels so sad for him too. I think he had more places he wanted to go, but he appeared to live holding nothing back. My last post of his reads "ready for winter." It's up to us now, to allow his influence to keep making a difference. I'm probably like so many others right now - may it not be so!!

Thanks for this viewpoint -it’s very meaningful, and accurate. We were friends since medical school and he really was a deep thinker, feeler, giver- and honestly, although perhaps not as apparent from his social media, was very fun and very very funny. Tragic, tremendous loss.

I enjoyed learning about his humour through the stories shared, and also the video of him showing how to commute via canoe. Also, even seeing TV footage of his comments re COVID--show him starkly serious, but I can see that right under that is a huge sense of humour - not the making fun type, but that he is hiding a kind of fun loving spirit that TV would have no idea what to do with. I'm so sorry for his family. And for him. He was just getting started on the mountain biking races - I think - and surely had other dreams we don't know. I never thought I'd appreciate twitter in this way, as I wouldn't have known him otherwise.

(and he's definitely changed my life for the better).

Thanks for writing this Terry. I had no idea this happened. What a tragic loss for society and of course for his family and friends. He was uplifting in dark times, and inspirational in so many ways. This is so terribly sad.

He made a difference to so many of us who will never meet him, with his kindness, empathy, compassion, advocacy and zest for life.

Like so many others I never met the man face to face but I am so honoured to have met his presence. His wit, honesty and humanity ….. I will never forget him. RIP good sir. Pedal hard the clouds are light. πŸ™πŸ’”

Thanks for this, Terry. I think you have captured the relationship many of us had with the good doctor. There is a hole but the light shines through.

I am so sad to hear this. My deepest condolences to his family and many friends and followers. I'd always hoped to show up at the outdoor coffee some day. 😒

(me too). And now instead of seeing his face for the first time over coffee, I'm noticing the small but very meaningful ways my life has changed. It's the best we can do, to honour him, and sadly, it's the most we can do when I wish we could do more for his family, like turn back time and re do that day.

I did not know him, saw a few news stories on him. A well written tribute to this man who notably stayed true to himself and gave more of himself to others than one may ever know.

Thank you for giving him this honour

He pushed mandates and continually criticized those of us (including my dear family, and friends) who were sharing the truth all along while he was doing the exact opposite. That aside, even somebody who did horrible things such as he, didn’t deserve this. RIP. I’ll be sure to share it with my 116,942 Substack followers with the real truth is though.
